Join other veteran teachers who are interested in preparing for the National Board Certification professional development process. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) have recognized over 74,000 teachers across the United States who have successfully completed a ten-part assessment. 589 of those teachers are from Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Department of Education awards an annual yearly stipend of $2500 for the life of the certificate. In addition, if a teacher teaches in an identified high poverty school, an extra $2,500 is awarded yearly. National Board Certification also qualifies you for Master Licensure (10 year license) in the State of Wisconsin.
This course is taught by National Board Certified teachers Marsha Denny and Carlene Hansen who are experienced in facilitating candidate support workshops. They are eager to share their experiences and to guide participants in understanding the complexities of this rigorous assessment process.
Participants can expect to learn the skills of portfolio development, reflective and analytic thinking and writing, using standards to measure teaching proficiency, and identifying professional accomplishments that impact student learning.
Participants should bring a copy of the directions, copy of the standards for their area, and portfolio directions. These can be downloaded from: http://www.nbpts.org/for_candidates/certificate_areas1
